ENGLISH: The K6 microprocessor was launched by AMD in 1997. The main advantage of this particular microprocessor is that it was designed to fit into existing desktop designs for Pentium branded CPUs. It was marketed as a product which could perform as well as its Intel Pentium II equivalent but at a significantly lower price. The K6 had a considerable impact on the PC market and presented Intel with a serious competition.

DEUTSCH: Der AMD K6 ist ein x86-Mikroprozessor der Firma AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) und wurde ursprünglich von der Firma NexGen unter dem Namen Nx686 entwickelt. Er gilt als Hauptkonkurrent zum Intel Pentium MMX bzw. Intel Pentium II und konkurrierte zusätzlich noch mit dem Cyrix 6x86MX.

CZECH: AMD K6 je mikroprocesor od společnosti AMD pro počítače PC uvedený na trh roku 1997 jako následník procesoru AMD K5 a předchůdce procesoru AMD K6-2.

Jádro vyvinula společnost NexGen, kterou AMD koupila. Měl 57 instrukcí MMX, 64 KB L1 cache a byl vyráběn technologií 0,35–0,25 mikronů, obsahoval 8,8 milionů tranzistorů.

Pro způsob zpracování instrukcí x86 pomocí jádra na základě RISC byl procesor o něco výkonnější než procesory Pentium a Pentium Pro pracující na stejné frekvenci.
