Logbook d'origine très très plein. ... mais au final j'en ai trouvé un parmi les 3 ou 4 petits books de secours qui a encore un peu de place....

This was a "Drive and Cache" race before the time to get on my plane to Athens... I rented a car at the airport, around noon, and I must be back before 4pm...
So my plans are:

  • start with the Earth cache at Agia Paraskevi Cave, that is by far my favorite.
  • have lunch somewhere
  • try Mickey mountain, that will be the eastmost.
  • start the way back west by the Cret@quarium
  • try the 2 or 3 caches on the other side of the expressway
  • terminate, if possible, with Eileithya cave, and maybe Amnissos, depending on the time left.

Reaching Agia Paraskevi cave is easy (for a geocacher).
Getting inside also , there is a confortable path. And at this time of the year the site is completely desert.
I reach WP1. Now come the 1st question, and the first problem: I have no altimeter, only my GPS, so elevations will be quite approximative. Second way point is also easy to reach, and question 2 is solved. Now where is this altar ? GPS will not work underground of course (at least not this one). Yet I know I have to go down, and we have its picture. I first missed it, chosing a wrong track, went back, and spotted the rock. As an extra hint, there are nice flat degrees, in front of it. So this is it. Do they hold ceremonies here ?
So I take the measure required and estimated the elevation. ..

Most remarquable is the number of birds having their nests in the high ceilings of this big room. And of course their droppings make the floor rock rather... slippery. Be careful !

This one was a fast and easy, as expected in this place. The only regret is that it is a micro cache, that naturally cannot host any travel object...
TFTC !

Still it is not yet time for my flight, my plans are to rent a small car, and raid all caches within 10 or 12 kms in the direction of the East, or let's say as many as possible... 4 hours left before boarding; )

This one has given me much trouble... first thing my usual tools were not able to identify the writings on the enigma image... some of the characters are matching some different old runic writings, but none of them would provide all symbols needed.
So I gave up on the direct approach and had a look at the photo collection. Some of them were interesting, it was not too difficult to identify the place from where they had been taken. The boats themselves were still at the same place.
But I searched several time there, there is often people passing by, and I was unsuccessful.
Then I came back to the pictures , and discovered a detail that helped in the search and yes this morning it was there, at last, exactly where I had been searching right from the beginning (;-)
Thanks for the cache, and the opportunity to learn a lot about ancien writings that I did not know before this one.

Fourth time I come here...
I will have had a great merit,
(For my perseverance...) even if I finally had to ask a hint to the owner before I finally found it !
And in the end I have no regrets, at all, and I will give it a FP.
Definitely a fancy and intelligent hiding, that well worth its D3.
Thanks wind&water.

And as a last benefit, as it is I as midnight now, I am logging my visit from one of the benches in the square, with the very good music from the neighbour bar.

Short multi indeed, accessible even if you get sore feet from the other long multis of the old town.
No sign of the original ladies of the area though... (;-).
Cache was easily found, thanks to the good hint. Neat box also, wish it a long life.
Thanks for the cache and the nice surroundings.

This one I found easily, this morning before the first conference session starts. The place was completely desert. No problem finding the "box" so... but the problem was with the box itself. What I found (reasonably hidden) was a small metal box cover (only the cover), and the logbook under it, just lying on the ground, and in surprisingly good state given the circumstances. I did add a small waterproof plastic pocket around the logbook.
Also, strangely, not all visits that have been declared "found" on geocaching.com were present on the logbook....
Great Thanks for installing and maintaining the cache.
