There are several ways to reach the cache.
1. Park at N 34°54.521’ E 033°37.105 for a quick cache and
dash with a lovely 350m stroll along the lakeside.
2. Follow the Salt Lake Nature Trail from Kamares, a return trip
of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
3. Park at N 34°53.740’E 033°37.846’ and enjoy a 40
minute return trip along the Lakeside following the Nature Trail
from Artemis Paralia.
You can mix ‘n match doing these singly, in pairs or
complete the return trip of 8km which takes around 2 hours (on
foot) plus hunting time. The walk between Artemis Paralia and Hide
‘n Seek is particularly scenic. Cycling appears to be popular
and dogs are welcome to bring their well behaved owners!
The cache is hidden a short distance from the nature trail. This
is an excellent vantage point for seeing both the flamingos and
various other wildfowl wading in the salt shallows during the rainy
season. During the dry season, it offers interesting views across
the salt flats towards Hala Sultan Tekke (burial place of the
Prophet Mohammad's aunt Umm Haram) and Stavrovouni with its
monastery in the distance.
DUE TO A FIRE WHICH DESTROYED THE CACHE WE
HAVE RELOCATED THIS MICRO IN A TEMPORARY PLACE UNTIL THE
MUNICIPALITY REBUILD THE STRUCTURE - THIS MAY NOT BE SOON! THE
DESCRIPTION REMAINS UNCHANGED, BUT THERE IS A NEW
HINT.
Salt Lake
In August every year it produces large quantities of good
quality salt, which used to be used for local consumption and
export to Europe. In the Middle Ages the lake served as a safe
harbour where ships could stop to take in fresh supplies of food
and water and where tourists or passengers could disembark. In
other words it was a commercial port.
It is not advisable to walk onto the flats even in the height of
summer as the baked surface can sometimes give way. It’s not
deep, but does make a smelly mess of your footwear!
Cache is a 35mm film container.
There is a small log book – please bring a pen/pencil
for logging.
