Station Antwerpen-Centraal
Het Centraal Station van Antwerpen, door de Antwerpenaren ook wel de Middenstatie of Spoorwegkathedraal genoemd, werd in 1905 in gebruik genomen. Het gebouw bestaat uit een stalen perronoverkapping en een stenen stationsgebouw in eclectische stijl. In 2007 opende een tunnel onder het station waardoor Antwerpen-Centraal niet langer een eindstation is.
Dit grandioze staaltje architectuur aan het Astridplein bestaat uit een stalen perronoverkapping en een stenen stationsgebouw. De perronoverkapping werd ontworpen tussen 1895 en 1899 door Clement van Bogaert. De overkapping is 43 meter hoog, 186 meter lang en 66 meter breed. Het stenen stationsgebouw werd gebouwd tussen 1899 en 1905 door Louis Delacenserie in eclectische stijl. Delacenserie liet zich onder meer inspireren door het Pantheon in Rome. Het hoogste punt (75 meter) is een grote koepel.
Het station werd op 11 augustus 1905 geopend. In 1975 werd het een beschermd monument en vanaf 1986 werd het grondig gerenoveerd. Tussen 2000 en 2009 werd de spoorhal verdubbeld in capaciteit met onder meer perrons op twee ondergrondse niveaus.
Vroeger moesten de treinen binnen rijden en weer buiten rijden.
Nu kunnen ze doorrijden dankzij de spoorwegtunnel tussen het station en het noorden van de stad.
Het station werd al meermaals verkozen tot één van de mooiste ter wereld, onder andere door Newsweek, Mashable en The Telegraph.

Recently, the station was completely renovated and in 2007 a tunnel underneath the station and a part of Antwerp was opened, reverting the station’s status as a terminus where are all trains have to turn back.

Between 2000 and 2009, the railway hall was doubled in capacity, including platforms on two underground levels. In the past, trains had to run in and out again. Now they can drive on thanks to the railway tunnel between the station and the north of the city.
The station has been voted several times as one of the most beautiful in the world, among others by Newsweek, Mashable and The Telegraph.
