Located in the southwest of Kos , in the southern part of the peninsula Kefalos you can find the abandoned monastery of Agios Ioannis Thymianos .
When we discovered this place , it was totally clear to us, thast we have to share this place and view with other cachers .
The monastery is deserted for a long time, but still very well preserved and partially restored. The monastery buildings themselves can not be visited, but rather the small church and a beautiful bell tower standing in front of the church. ( Admission is free )
Underneath an old Plantane you can rest in its shade. Those who have no more supplies, can enjoy the view over the Mediterranean Sea with a cool drink from the little cafe.
A wonderful place that is filled with people who celebrate the parish fair in August.
Note : We have not hidden the cache on the monastery grounds , not to disturb the tranquility of the place. You have to go downstairs after you found the cache to enjoy this beautiful place.
Hier, im Südwesten von Kos liegt, im südlichen Teil der Halbinsel Kefalos, das verlassene Kloster Agios Ioannis Thymianos.
Als wir diesen Ort entdeckten, war uns klar, diesen Ort und diese Aussicht müssen wir mit anderen Cachern teilen.
Das Kloster ist bereits seit langer Zeit verlassen, aber noch sehr gut erhalten und zum Teil restauriert. Die Klostergebäude selber können nicht betreten werden, wohl aber die kleine Kirche vor der ein wunderschöner Glockenturm steht. (Der Eintritt ist frei). Unter einer alten Plantane kann man hier im Schatten rasten. Wer keinen Proviant mehr hat, kann in dem kleinen Cafe den Ausblick über das Mittelmeermeer bei einem kühlen Getränk genießen. Ein wundervoller Ort, der sich im August mit viel Leben füllt, wenn hier das Kirchweihfest gefeiert wird.
Hinweis: Den Cache haben wir bewusst nicht auf dem Klostergelände gelegt, um die Ruhe des Ortes nicht zu stören. Einige Stufen sind daher nach dem Bergen des Caches noch zu gehen.
