I'm also archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Geocache Description:

Kvarner Caches is a series of hundreds excellent locations with hidden caches in Kvarner region - Croatian best kept secret :)

KVARNER Cache 65 is located at the most famous and most attractive edifice in Bakar - the medieval Castle. This grandiose and impressive edifice has maintained its authentic appearance dating from the 18th century but its roots grow much deeper in the past.

The Citadel, as we know it today, stems from the beginning of the 16th century when this Frangipane fortress was additionally reinforced, faced with the danger of the Turkish invasion, which is witnessed in a Glagolitic inscription engraved in the upper part of the stone door frame dating from 1530.
That a fortress or a town protected by walls and defence facilities really existed before the year 1530, there where the Citadel stands today, was documented in the Vinodol Code (1288), where Bakar was mentioned as a “tough town” governed by managers of land owned by the Frangipane dukes, who lived in castles.

The Citadel is an edifice which is inspiring and revealing a spirit of the past, adventure, wars, glorious times and spirit of the culture, creativity and literacy.
The Citadel carries in itself multiple historical and cultural layers and it is a real, authentic witness of the past centuries of history of Bakar and Croatia.
