O miejscu:
Warownię wznieśli rycerze zakonu krzyżackiego w latach 1344 -1391. Zamek otoczony był murem i fosą. Z trzech stron zamku broniły bagna, z czwartej zaś, rzeka Działdówka. Od strony podjazdu stały dwie wieże smukła, okrągła, na ośmiobocznej podstawie i masywna, czworoboczna, obok bramy.
Do naszych czasów w bardzo dobrym stanie zachował się główny budynek mieszkalny ze zdobionym szczytem, a także mur obwodowy od strony zachodniej i północnej, przyziemia baszty północnej, relikt bramy wjazdowej oraz dolne partie wieży przybramnej.
Przyziemia skrzydła zachodniego i baszty bramnej niedawno nadbudowano kompozycją tzw nowoczesną. Całość wygląda dziwacznie. Mieszczą się w nim obecnie urzędy miejskie oraz siedziba burmistrza.
Zamek nie jest udostępniony do zwiedzania - w dni powszednie można jedynie wejść na otwarty dla chętnych dziedziniec.

About the place:
The stronghold was raised by the Teutonic Knights in the years 1344-1391. Castle was surrounded by a wall and a moat. On three sides the castle was protected by swamps, and on the fourth - by the river Działdówka. From the ramp side there were two towers: one slender,round and built on an octagonal base and a massive, four-sided tower next to the gate.
Nowadays only the following parts are preserved: the main residential building with ornate top (in very good condition), the peripheral wall at the west and north sides, the basement of the north tower, remnants of the entrance gate and the lower parts of the gate tower.
Ground floor of the west wing and of the gate tower were recently extended with so-called modern composition. It looks weird and ugly. Currently, the castle is the seat of municipal offices and the mayor.
Castle is not open to the public; on weekdays once can walk into the courtyard.
