Geocache Description:

The Upper-Tisa region is particularly rich in medieval sacral monuments. This territory was’t occupied by Ottoman armies, so this buildings had more chance to remain.
Maybe, the most scenic one is the reformated church of Nagyszekeres.
The church was built at the end of the fifteenth century on an island surrounded by the Gogo-Szenke creek. This location was enabled for the inhabitants to use the building as a small fortress.
The village was hit by Tatar armies in 1719 and the gothic ceiling had collapsed, it was only partly rebuilt after archeological researches in the 1980’s. The furnishment was made in the XVIIIth century in folkish style.
The belltower is a typical one in this land, was made of wood, without using any artificial fixation.
